TPXimpact

Supporting a publicly listed, certified B-Corp company to develop and deliver a Leadership Essentials Programme.

The opportunity

TPXimpact is a digital transformation company supporting organisations to build a better future for people, places and the planet. A publicly listed certified B-Corp company, their teams work with the public, private and third sectors providing people-powered digital transformation.

TPXimpact experienced a period of rapid growth, including multiple acquisitions, and a subsequent transformation to bring together the different businesses. During this time TPXimpact launched a manager capability programme that aimed to upskill their circa 170 people managers and as part of this journey sought our help to develop a Leadership Essentials Programme.

“The instructors were very engaging and knowledgeable. It was also a very encouraging environment, and there was a lot of open discussion about potentially quite challenging situations and hearing different perspectives about how to approach them was really useful.”

Our Solution

To understand what was needed, we facilitated a Programme Definition workshop with a small group of people managers from across the organisation, representing different businesses and functions.  We worked with this group to understand what was important to them, what they needed to know, where their confidence wavered as people managers and what they needed help with. We also engaged with the Directors to understand their business priorities, aspirations for their people managers as well as some of the challenges they and their people managers faced. Using these and other inputs we defined the programme aims, objectives and learning outcomes, proposed what the programme could cover and multiple delivery options.

Based on what we heard, in addition to co-designing the programme event, we also co-developed a model which reflected the breadth of responsibilities of a people-manager, from checking in, to guiding and supporting, to setting objectives, giving feedback supporting people development and much more.

Once the scope of the programme and delivery option were agreed, we designed a one-day interactive programme, which covered the following areas:

●       Importance of mindset

●       Introducing the TPXimpact Manager Model

●       Creating the conditions to enable psychologically safe environments

●       Creating meaningful connection

●       Coaching for success

●       Feedback for performance

●       Developing situational awareness and leadership

The programme included gameplay, 1:1 and small group work and self-reflection. In addition, we designed branded assets, such as a banner, boards, films and workbooks.

Before the roll-out we ran the programme as a pilot with 13 people managers from across the organisation, incorporating their feedback to strengthen and improve the programme.

We delivered in total 12 one-day Leadership Essentials development days in London, Bristol, Manchester and Chesterfield.

Our Impact

Prior to the development day, we asked people:

‘What is your level of confidence for being a people-first manager at TPX?’

The average response was 3.7/5.  Post-event feedback showed the dial moved up to 4.1/5.

Overall feedback scored 4.5/5 satisfaction across all questions, with people likely to recommend the course to colleagues scoring 8.4/10.

"Dragonfish supported our organisational aims in rapidly training our core people manager group, ensuring consistency of understanding, approach and creating a more equal management experience for all our colleagues.  The people manager model continues to be used throughout the organisation"
